When: Monday, September 28, 2015, 5 p.m.
Where: NELHA Gateway Center
Presenter: Jose Dizon, Paniolo Power

Paniolo Power, a subsidiary of Parker Ranch, made a splash last year when they announced they could provide renewable electricity for the Kohala region more cost effectively than the utility. General Manager Jose Dizon will present parts of the more detailed investigations they have been pursuing with their partners Siemens and Booz Allen since then. He will discuss the benefits of pumped storage hydro, and how the economic analyses the utility performs undervalues these types of resources. He will also speak to the utility's power supply improvement plan and how Paniolo believes there is a simple alternative that provides more benefit to the customer and is 100% renewable. Community Renewables is a concept that allows renters and businesses that lease buildings to participate in owning solar assets, and is also a part of Paniolo Power's plans.

Jose Dizon, P.E., is the General Manager of Paniolo Power Company, LLC, a subsidiary of Parker Ranch. He oversees all energy initiatives for the Ranch, including exploring compelling and diverse portfolios of renewable energy resources to benefit the Ranch's beneficiaries and the Kohala community. Jose came to Hawaii by way of the Navy as a nuclear submarine officer, then spent 21 years with the Hawaiian Electric Companies in several diverse leadership positions. He recently served as a Nuclear Engineering Division Head at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and as a strategic and management consultant in the local and national energy field.

Jose graduated from the University of California Berkeley with degrees in Electrical Engineering Computer Sciences and Nuclear Engineering.
