Puna Geothermal Venture (PGV) is a geothermal energy power plant on the island of Hawaii, and the only commercial one in the state. Prior to the eruption of Kilauea in 2018 the plant had an installed generating capacity of 38 MW from six wells and generated 10% of the island’s electrical energy through Hawaiian Electric.  At its quarterly meeting in November, it was announced that the Puna Geothermal Venture power plant is nearly back to full capacity.

Mike Kaleikini is a Senior Director at Puna Geothermal Venture, where he is involved in  Operations Management, Policy oversight, Community Outreach and legislative relationship building.

About the Island Science Lecture Series

The Island Science Lecture Series is a collaboration between the Hawaii Keiki Museum, Startup Hawaiʻi, and the Kona Science Cafe thanks to the generous support of the Hawai’i Tourism Authority. Through a series of events, visitors and residents will be encouraged to “go beyond the beaches” and explore Hawaiʻi Island’s living laboratory of unique and diverse geographies and climates.

Events will take place once a month, starting July 2023 and running through December 2023. Events will focus on exploring the science, engineering, technology, and cultural aspects of Hawaiʻi Island. The Lecture Series will facilitate critical and meaningful interactions, collaboration, and networking across the scientific, business, and visitor communities.
